I watched the Disney movie Brave the other night with my daughter (yes Jen … I finally watched it!). It was about a young Scottish girl and her dreams of independence … and it made me think of how once we dreamed when we were younger.
I guess I used to envision myself being the adventurous type once upon a time ago … but age and motherhood has made me a bit more cautious … though in my head I still have dreams of taking on the world at times.
Ahhh … I have yet another cortisone shot scheduled for tomorrow late … perhaps then I can gallavant about again … swim a bit more ferociously … or ride my bike … as if I were riding a mare like the lass in the video. *smiles*
For now, here is a video I found for the theme song of the movie, “Touch the Sky“. The singer is a fine Scottish woman with a lovely voice.
Bout time you saw it. Sheesh.
Ahh … you know I am a slow one at times. By the way … whoever did the voices did a fine job of it … the Scottish was spot on.
The voice of the little girl was a wonderful actress who’s best known for the lead female role on the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire.”
Ack … I do not have cable tele as you know … is it a good show then? I bet she is from Scotland.
I love Disney movies! I shall hunt this one down and watch it with my grandsons! Hope the shot doesn’t hurt too much! Huge hugs for being a brave girl! Lol Mwaaah, Katiekins.
………..Paula xx
I almost cannot wait to get the shot…I want to start not hurting!
Ohhhh! Super gentle hugs to you, Katiekins! xxxxx
Looks fantastic – one for me to watch as well
I’ll admit it was not my favorite Disney movie…though the soundtrack I thought was wonderful.
omg that movie was sooo cute. We should watch it again. The Disney movies are almost always perfect.
But we all take on the world each and every day. Sometimes we may be knights in shiny armor riding on a majestic steed battling evil at every turn, other times we may just offer a hug and smile to someone, perhaps a daughter on her way to school… That hug and smile could change the world.
Nods … I think you are right about how we take on the world each day … or at least parts of it. And … lord you make me feel good when you say such wonderful things Amber.
*hugs*
ah i watched it a few months back and absolutely loved the Gaelic accent! and it was nice to have a lady heroine for a change… go on and take on the world in your very small bit Katie!
Nods … it was sooo Scottish nod nod nods. A bit think most might say (as they were trying for old time speak) … but then again … I suspect that there are some that still have the strong talk (mostly those in the outlaying areas).
A lot of times people where I live now get the two mixed up … or cannot tell the difference!
Just the music gives me chills – loved it. I have seen this advertised but have not seen it..now I think I shall
thanks Katie for posting. xx
Well … if you are like me … it will take you a few months to go and see it lol. Jen told me to watch it a bit ago!
Katie, the music still makes me cry, I love Touch the Sky and also the group Mumford and Sons who also sing one of the songs. My friends and I took our daughters to see it last Summer and I loved it. Not your average Disney film. It really sends a message of love between Mothers and daughters and how difficult it can be sometimes to see eye to eye, but you get there eventually. My girls love it. It is such a powerful girl’s role and so genuine. Thank you for posting… Hugs
Nods … it does make me think of my daughter a lot … and how I will need to let her find her own way soon. In fact … I have to do that even now.
I just took a look at the soundtrack listing … it says that Emma Thompson, who was the voice of the mum, sang one of the songs.
I thought Emma Thompson had a beautiful voice. I didn’t know she sang one until I saw her name listed with the song.
I don’t like saying no to my daughter, my eldest. I try to pick my battles. She is turning 10 and has a mind of her own, it’s very hard because I worry and stress a lot. I can only hope I have given her the tools she needs to cope at her age. With every year it gets worse, doesn’t it? your daughter just turned 13, so I imagine, it is a lot harder. She is right at the cusp of teen-dom
I think some years are worse than others … though I am not sure that it has been more a function of how I went looney one year.
All in all though … we have gotten along a lot better this past year … but as you said … she is just at the beginnings of teendom. But she is a good person (who doesn’t say that about thier child!) … and you will do fine I am sure … it does go by so fast.
Loved this movie. Downloaded the whole soundtrack. Also…you are brave Katie. Very much so.
Thank you. Though in my head…so many are brave…braver than me. You are one such person nod nods. *hugs*
