Scottish Song

Yes, yes … another lazy music video post from me.

I have been listening to this singer ever since I watched the movie Brave and found the soundtrack on youtube.  I have listend to Julie Fowlis before … but am finding a renewed likening of her again.

It’s a fast paced song … and it’s all in Gaelic…though Scottish Gaelic … and in general my Irish is already sketchy at best … so I cannot follow along very well … but I LOVE this.

  1. I didn’t understand a word she sang — but WOW — she has a lovely voice! Thanks for sharing! By the way, I can’t understand half of what Moya Brennan says either, but I love listening to her as well.

  2. Doesn’t matter if I could understand one word she sang – it was melodic and beautiful Deaf Shepherd and then the boom box Cuimhn Aagad my god I loved it all !!!! More of these please, I was dancing in my chair! :) xxxx

  3. *couldn’t* see I was too excited to spell correctly! ;-)

  4. This was such an awesome song! Reminds me of the movie “Brave” =)

  5. Thank you for the beautiful song. Years ago I roamed Scotland and I love the old places and the good music/beer.

  6. ach, it stirs up my ancestral blood. :-)

wait, no one understood what she said?

oh phew, I thought it was just me… late night *giggles*

  7. Katiekins!! I couldn’t stop bopping and she’s very pretty. Loved it, hugs from me to you! Mwaaah! …Paula xx

    • I know..it was a lively tune wasn’t it? (and by the way…I STILL owe you an email … I have not forgotten.)

One more oh….isn’t bopping a term for errr…. uhm … nevermind *giggles*

  8. I like to imagine what she’s singing. I think she’s saying some clever lyrics about how she was scorned by a lover, but kicking his butt to the curb. She has better things to conquer. The song sounds empowering anyway. LOVE it!

  9. I love the quality of her voice and the pace of the song…definitely a bouncy song!

  10. What a fantastic song. And that voice!!!

  11. So beautiful Katie, I wish I could speak the Gaelic. I am obsessed with Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series… Have u read? And then Brave came out. I love Julie Fowlis after Brave too. Makes me want to do a jig, er, well, not sure a jig is appropriate :-)

    • Oh…nods… I have read a few of the Outlander books….uhm…*tries to remember* ….uhmm…his name is Jamie?!?!? He was the sassenach nod nods lol. I cannot remember the main woman character though (besides… they wrote his character sooooo hunkily. (Yes…I made that word up…’hunkily’…it SHOULD be a real word damnit.)

As for jigs….it’s a bit different…the Irish dancing and the Scottish. Irish is a bit faster … and the Scottish style … their legs a bit more bowed as they dance. (I think they lead their 1st step opposite in a lot of the dances too … but I could be wrong.)

      • Yesssss Jamie and Claire his Sassenach( not sure if I even spelled that properly). Love the Outlander books. Aha – hunkily is aha a really good word. Will now be added to my vocabulary.
Um…I will have to youtube the Scottish dance. Still, I like the Jig… wish I could do both, there are many times when I feel like a jig. I would probably fall flat on my face instead :-)
